There are a lot of finesse rigs out there on the market, especially a lot of newer finesse rigs. However, some old school techniques still work well and will even outperform finesse tactics like ned rigs!

Finesse rigs like NEKO Rigs, NED Rigs and drop shots have consumed bass fisherman over the years, however some old school techniques still catch a lot of bass and some big bass.
One of those techniques is using a soft plastic Gary Yamamoto Twin Tail Hula Grub. This is a bait that a lot of guys used to use back in the day, but people seem as if they have stopped fishing it.
Whether you are fishing for spotted bass, smallmouth bass or largemouth bass. Hula grubs will catch bass when the fish are feeding on the bottom but they don’t want to hit bigger lures like jigs.
This technique is also known as Spider jigging. It is truly a great way to catch bass in a power finesse type way.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

Any input on rigging it weedless? I fish a very weedy lake.
I fish this bait all the time. I can throw it anywhere, open deeper water, shallow water along the bank, pitch it around bushes and cover and catch fish on it. For me I have found the Zman Ned lock jig heads work great ! The thick metal on the hook shaft at the eye helps extend the life of the bait because they to tend to tear up easy.
Chomper
A hula grub weightless, will smash the most pressured fish, all day long.
I love your videos, your knowledge and experience is amazing. I've been fishing for Bass for over 40 years until I was Diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer ♋️ with only 3 weeks to Live. I've been on my feet for five months now. God has Bless me with another Miracle 🙏. Although I'm still fatigued, I started fishing Professional on the Texas Team Trail Professional Team Trail. If you have any Stickers, I would love to Display them on my Bass Boat.
Thanks for your valuable time and information 👍
God Bless you 🙏 Timothy
Yes sir. Late 80;s. Around my part of the Carolina s. The lure was called the Creepy Crawler Pumpkinseed they was deadly and still are like you said we don’t throw them as much now. Thanks for the info
Use the powerbait version with a VMC rugby jighead. Allows you to Texas rig it. Great video!
Just bought a bag of hula skirts (only the skirt) by yamamoto
Thanks Tyler. I have fished alot of hula grubs. I started fishing them Texas rigged with light weights and did great. My latest way is with a owner block head offset jig head. That jig is made for a Ned rig and stands up for a second or two when hopping on bottom. It isn't a deep water approach but down to 6' or so can't be beat.
I can't believe how productive this bait is. You are right, they absolutely devour this thing….you can tell they are trying to EAT this….not just being aggressive towards it. Thanks for the tip…I've caught so many fish on this already!
Man that is a solid looking grub
How would this compare to a small megabug? Looks like similar size
I use the Hula Grub all the time when the bite is tough. Awesome baits.
Let's give it a go and see what happens.
Tyler, why do you and a lot of other pro anglers fish a spinning reel lefthanded and a baitcaster righthanded?
Great vid professor!
Once again love the video keep them coming 👍👍
I just watched an amazing video by Diane Garland, Bobby Garland's daughter about her dad and how he was the designer of a lot of the baits we use today, and this is one of them.
Shhhhhhh lol
Thanks
Dude!! You really don’t want to have the fish SHOKE the lure…..too many casualties.
Gonna try them on a Texas rig
I got some of those never tryed them
"One Ton" Rig!
I’ve been using these for years .. and clean house ..
Hell yeah!!
Not to be confused with a hula popper
Good job on this video for us amateurs
Caught 5 largemouth in 40 minutes on a green pumpkin hula jig while waiting for my girlfriend to get her teeth cleaned just now. Chicago River, downtown.
Been using that for years and it really does work!
Hey Tyler the hula grub changed fishing forever I'm 56yrs old and in the past when I was younger I used to catch alot of smalmouth bass on them . Hey Tyler I just moved to Missouri this past summer so I'm still learning I've been catching bass on the pee wee football jig by jewel baits. But I don't have my boat yet . My buddy has a bass boat so I get out on the water . Thanks for the great videos excellent information God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike.
That grub is great on a swinghead jig.
I use in creeks and small rivers on spinning gear. Usually lay downs in less than 5 feet of water. 1/8 ounce head with a wire weed guard, or I put them on formerly skirted jigs when I lose the skirt. Smallmouth love these, I also tried Carolina rig in rocky current areas but no success yet.
How do you not have more subscribers?! Most amazing and informative fishing channel on YouTube!
Why o why did you give this up . Damn
Hope you enjoyed your time on table rock man! Funny that I’m watching a video about a hula grub that you made while staying at our place. Started fishing a hula grub on TRL when I was 11… I’m 40 now. 😂
One of my favorite baits hands down, either on its own or as a jig trailer.
What size hook are in your 1/4 oz jig heads?
