extra heavy rod? I guess if you're flipping jigs you don't need so much sensitivity. But I bass fish with a light-medium

What do you do with the remainder of the trailer that you tear off?
I don't get all the weed gaurd mods. I keep mine the way they are with no hook up problems. If that fish has the hook in its mouth and you hammer back, it will easily overcome the force of the weed gaurd. The weed gaurd also helps keep the fish hooked.
