Pull an arms length of line out on "back-swing" & let it go on your "front-swing" repeat until desired distance is met approx. 40-50 ft. & practice alot
You should have used the right type of fishing lure for that fly rod. The popper is the bomb

Try salmon fishing on a fly rod it’s insane.
Find a stronger fly rod and you'll be able to fish with that particular lure. Because the rod would be able to withstand the pressure of the fight…

A better cheap fly fishing rod is a ,$100 Pflueger rod. You already have the reel and line.

See if you can put the fly fish reel on a spinning reel rod.
I fly fish some for gills take your reel of and make it a left hand by putting it on the other way or if you are leaving it right hand take you line of to the knot on the reel it’s self and reel it on like a bait caster when you buy a fly reels with line on it it is always on backwards
