  1. I am 100% ultra light fisherman. I chase panfish and crappie religiously out of a pedal drive kayak. Lately the big yellow perch have been chewing so its a lot of hand tied jigs or bobby garland sexy shads.

  2. My current setup is a rod designed by Aggressively Average Anglers (no longer in production) and a Piscifun Flame 1000. 4# braid and 6# leader. Is that leader still ultralight? I love it because I can feel the tiniest bite yet still land a decent size bass or pike, sometimes a random carp. My baits are tiny. Almost exclusively, Mule Fishing (they just work for me. I rig them on a 1/32 tungsten Trout Magnet. For the thicker ones a, #1 offset or ewg hook with a nail weight jammed in the front. Great for multispecies fishing. Those suprise bites though. 16" smallie 16" largemouth 29" northern pike and the biggest suprise of my year 23" coho salmon that musta took a wrong turn somewhere. Ultralight is just ultrafun for me.

  3. 7 rods in your hand plus all those rods behind you. 38 I counted behind plus the 7 in your hand, 45 total! I thought I had a problem! Might be time to purge.

  4. This past Black Friday I bought a 6’ st. Croix UL panfish series and paired it with the Shimano Nasci 500. I originally wanted the Nasci 1000 but they were sold out, BUT the 500 feels great as well. Got into UL because of you! God bless!

  5. You're spot-on about losing a lot of lures getting hung up on the ultralight… I must have lost 5 jigheads the other day at the creek, the trees got a couple and no idea on the rest 😂

  6. Looking to upgrade my ul rod/reel. I have an older shimano 5 ft w matching reel. Its served its purpose, but im looking for more feel and distance. This video has helped.

  7. I'm a dedicated ultralight fisherman. I use a Piscifun Alumix 1000 size reel on a Handing Magic L ultralight rod. My personal best is a 5 lb Largemouth on 4 lb test line. Thanks for making this video John. Fish on,brother. 🎣🎣🎣🙏

  8. Ever wanted to get a small electric shooter cos its so much fun, but ended up still riding your 700lb Harley fatboy cos you worry how your peers look at you? Well thats why so many dont try ultralight.

  9. Your channel has inspired me to go light, for the first time in twenty five years. I just bought a Shakespeare Lite and a Lews 1000 with 4lb, and caught four bass in a few hours. I'm hooked, and want to keep going. Ill get a nicer setup eventually, but this was a good way to give it a try again.

I have been watching your videos for years. I started fishing ultralight only 3 years ago. I love bass fishing with the ultralight set up. I really have learned a lot from watching your channel and Ethan at Fish Anything. Thank you for years of entertainment and helping me get back into fishing. Both of you have the right ideas on fishing. Catch fish and have fun!!!You and Ethan teaming up is an All-Star ultralight lineup. God Bless and Merry Christmas!!!

  11. Ultralight is becoming my favorite way to fish. I have 4’8” to 6’ fishing rods. The water I’m fishing determines what I use. I have 500 and 1000 size reels. I’ve been doing a lot of brand to mono for line. But if I’m just using mono, all I use is 4 pound test. As far as favorite set up. I have to go with my 500 Vanford with 5’6” St. Croix Premier. I have 6lbs Berkeley Forward braid and 4lbs mono.

  12. Perfect. when I first entered the ultra lite world 45 years ago, 5' 10" rod and a 1000 size reel with 4 lb. mono is how I started. Now… 2 lb. class polyester line on 2000S size reels (Same body as a 1000 but larger diameter spool gives you more distance. Shallow spools hold less line so you're not wasting $$$ spooling up a spool with line you'll never use) Rods are lighter and range from 6' – 7' in length. The ultra lite rabbit hole is large, and a lot of fun to explore!
