Summer Fishing – Tips For Finding Fish And Catching Bigger Bass

These boys dodged the heat wave and caught some giant bass! Hop in the boat with them as they arrive in Wisconsin after a 12 hour drive across 5 states! Watch how they build a pattern, immediately locate fish, and not only catch fish, but catch great BIG bass!

The key to success this evening was understanding bass’ movements during the post spawn. With no history to rely on the guys looked at the map, chose a couple likely locations, and immediately began catching fish. They used a two-part approach, mixing a spy bait in with a variety of swimbaits. Post spawn fish tend to be aggressive, they want to feed, and this mix of reaction baits was the perfect option to catch these bass.

Below you’ll find links to the exact baits the guys were using. We’ve included the exact colors and sizes, along with the gear they were using to throw them. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can find detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. I fish in Arizona any time I get the chance, winter or summer. I know that temps around the country are ralative to what individual residents of the various states experience. I always get a kick when YouTube fishermen say, "It's hot out on the water today."
It's a brisk 104 degrees as I right this. Next week it's projected to be 111 to 114 degrees and at midnight it's still in the ninties temperature-wise. Some of us will actually go out and fish in that kind of heat. I used to do it in my younger days but anymore I just wait out the heat unless I can't stand it anymore. I'll fish in the heat to keep from going nuts.

  2. Welcome back to Wisconsin guys. Love seeing you fish in my backyard. I live in the northern part of the state and the smallmouth fishing on the Turtle Flowage by me is some of the best you can find.

  3. You guys always deliver awesome fish catches and tip's and trick's, but want to take a second and nice perch Matt caught! Definitely a jumbo and beautiful as well!!

  4. Heck of a drive to go fishing! Heck of a bunch of beautiful small mouth. A 4-7 and 5+, are you kidding us? You guys are living the good life. Thing about it, y'all worked hard to get where you are and took a gutsy chance to move your and your families to Tennessee in the middle of your lifes. Y'all have cajones as big as my head and I admire you for your great American venture, thanks for sharing it with us.

  5. I usually always throw 10lb braid to a 10lb leader for all my spinning rods. How much of a difference does it really make to switch to a 5lb-8lb fluorocarbon leader?

  6. i know you guys are individually busy alot of the time, but i love the vids where you two are together reviewing or fishing. we'd all like to see you two hangin out in vids more B)

  7. It does look like y’all have just enough room on the back of the boat for the first winner of the fish with Matt & Tim contest. !! Lol. Thank you. Nice video guys they are awesome smallmouth. Thanks for all the tips and tricks y’all give us.

  8. Wow, what a fantastic trip. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. One of the few downsides of living in Florida is our lack of smallmouth bass. Pound for pound, they bring it as few other species can. And, that perch…awesome catch! I hope you two do some more fishing while you're up there; it looks like a gorgeous (and cool) spot. Thanks!

  9. How about a video on traveling with a bass boat. How do you handle security? Where do you charge batteries? Do you check with hotels about parking/charging before you book? How do you pack the boat for a road trip? What tools and spare parts do you bring? Thanks

  10. I can’t afford to escape the heat with the price of gas and living in Texas that’s a drive. I don’t even run AC in my home. If I was rich I’d live in the north every summer.

  11. Haven’t been able to fish in weeks. Nursing a concussion and doc said “stay out of the heat, avoid too much bright light, and get your sleep.” So getting out late or early to fish the sunrise and sun set during the height of the summer is pretty much impossible

  12. Up in traverse city last week, I'd fish from the boat until 2 or 3, than shore fish marinas and river mouths until it was dark. This time up north is heavenly.
