  1. I suspect that we misstate what we are actually fishing. Salamanders are aquatic and lizards are terrestrial. We call them lizards but should refer to them as salamanders. I catch bass all year in Texas with them.

  2. Please let me put a bug in your ear. In the very early seventies, when I was a teen and JUCO student, I would constantly use a lizard, and I preferred it over a worm. Colors … black with red tail; black with pink tail, black with chartreuse tail, and precursor to pumpkinseed with any colored tail. During spawn, fished it off structure or on known beds. Secret: the lizard was devastating free floated on lily pads or over grasses without a sinker. Always fished it finesse and agonizingly slow. In lily pads, a retrieve might take 4-5 minutes. Strikes were explosive either on Rayburn or Lake Murvaul (Carthage or Gary, Texas). It always had a prominent position in my three tray tackle box and I always kept one on my second rod (I fished two rods and reels). If fish were biting, I ALWAYS caught them on a lizard. Just a friendly helpful hint. God bless!!! ✝️🎣👨‍🌾🦌🙏👍🏼👍🏼

  3. my first thought…. Bass eat a "lizard" just like they have plastic worms for decades…. I know a bass will eat a crawdad or a frog…. I don't think a Bass has ever eaten a "lizard" or mouse !! Just saying …

  4. People always move 2 newest baits ,but lizards are so slept on! I luv casting under overhang trees n swim it close 2 surface, like fell out tree n trying 2 get out of water. Always use 1 when it warms up! Get u some Zoom n watch it put bass n ur net!! I like green pumpkin n watermelon seed under trees!!🤘🤓🏴‍☠️

  5. We used a fliptail lizard in the 1970s. It was a straight tail fat bodied lizard, used them in the hottest part of summer fishing deep in north Texas on ledges. It’s just what was done back in those days.
