My first BASS Tournament win!

I do a lot of boat shows. store openings and seminars and many people ask me about how I got started bass fishing and my first tournament wins. When I started in 1970, BASS didn’t have many tournament rules! Back then you could prefish as much as you wanted, talk to anyone about the tournament waters , hire a quide, use a raised platform , keep and kill fish to name a few things that are now not permitted. In this video I’ll point out things I did legally then that are now “Roland Rules”, because I won tournaments doing them.

  1. I've been watching your show since some of the first ones were televised. I have a couple of your first VHS tapes, too, and at least one of your books. You're an inspiration, along with your Son, Scott. Thank you for your teachings and inspiration. I bought my first bass boat in 1987, a Ranger, which I still own and fish tournaments out of. I now live an hour from Lake Seminole and have fished a few tournaments there. My very first cast on Seminole, during practice for a tournament, resulted in a 6lb 6oz largemouth and I finished second in that tournament. Thanks again, Roland. P.S.- I also traveled from Michigan to Florida to visit your Marina and purchased a guide trip on Lake Okeechobee, a dream realized and a great memory.
