Luke, I have caught good barra straight off that pontoon at balgal Beach casting soft plastics and vibes back towards the bank off the pontoon there's a concrete ledge that is the footing for the pontoon they sit underneath the concrete footings straight at your feet. Must of caught 4 or 5 off there in one day. Just tea bagging under the pontoon

Mullets are the hardest bait fishes to catch, 😅 those eyes 👀 see the net way before it reaches the water
Mullets work wonders… but I normally use whatever bait I catch, especially the pilchards, and cigar minnows

Mate as I mentioned in your previous video, you can get a stocked impound permit and there are places you are allowed to fish for barra during the closed season. A couple of weirs around Townsville, a few stocked dams, including tinaroo behiond Cairns, you can legally fish for monster barra right through the closed season. You can get your Stocked Impound Permit (SIP) from any queensland post office (not an agency, not an LPO, a proper post office in a big town) or you can get it online too. About $65 for the year or about 1/5 that much for a weekly permit. best off getting the one for the whole year if you're still heading north because even in the open season you still need a permit to fish the stocked impounds. Mate of mine pulled out 53 metre plus barra in the last week before the season closed this year. Heading to Tinnaroo this weekend, me.
