In this episode, Matt and his son Mason “hook up” with fishing guide Trey Taylor and Wildlife Sgt. Jeff Prater to chase hybrid striped bass on Fort Patrick Henry Lake in upper east Tennessee. Tune in to see how Captain Trey rigs live Alewife shad for a simple, but very effective method to catch big hybrids.

What boat ramp is that?
FPH is a special lake. I've been fishing it for 30 years. I'm a trophy angler, particularly giant northern strain largemouth. I primarily fish big swimbaits, glide baits, multi joint, and big soft baits like Huddlestons. I've caught 3 northern strain largemouth out of there that were over 10. One of em was just over 12 and I've seen bigger fish that have followed a big glide bait but wouldn't commit. I've seen some that I believe would go 15lbs. Those caliber of fish are trout eaters. I would love to see the twra put more resources into that lake. Possibly a F1 stocking program. It's been done on boone but I believe FPH would flourish due to the hydrilla and millfoil in the lake. Boone lacks grass and FPH is full of it, at least the upper end has it. It starts to dissappear just before 81 bridge. But with regular trout stockings and a F1 bass stocking that lake could produce high teens, possibly a 20lbs largemouth. I travel and fish all over the country targeting trophy caliber largemouth and that lake is alot like the small lakes in Southern California that produced giants back in the 90's and thru the 2000's. There are alot of factors that go into producing trophy largemouth and FPH has all of them.
Correct me if im wrong, but striper aint native and neither are elwive shad. Supposedly they are both a little dangerous to the other gamefish?
