My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
I loved this. Please make more. The fundamentals are priceless

A++++
Pretty solid rules to follow for a beginner or someone that's been fishing for 30 years. Hey Matt I got to know who made that crankbait in the thumbnail and where do I get one I love unique stuff like that thanks man.
Excellent tips. I picture you finishing this video and then lying on the carpet playing with that toy truck in the background. Haha!
Matt, that was excellent. I could not agree more with you on those 5 tips. On the last one, short story : Lately I been fishing with a friend who decided to use fly fishing instead of standard equipment, we were in the same boat and he always out fish me with those tiny flies catching big LMB bass and Peacock bass. Its amazing.
That was awesome thanks and do more
Matt
This is EXCELLENT!!!!!
I have taken notes on some of your videos. I wrote every tip in this video. I feel like I am back in grad school – Professor Matt speaks and I’m taking notes.
Thank you for these tips and lessons
Rori
Great video Matt keep em coming!!
More or this, Matt, please!
I too love the info. Please share some more. You helped me nail down the post front bite question I've wondered about. That happened to us this past spring, crankbaits were king until the storm passed. It took me more than a half day to finally start with jigs in 18-20 feet of water. They were biting again!
I need all of these tips in a book…do it!
Great video, would love to see another like this
Keep pumping the tips out! Honestly I don’t think you’ve ever done a video I didn’t learn something from.
Yes, I would continue to do these Matt. The rule to fish isolated cover is a really good one because it is a little counterintuitive…I will remember to do that more now. The others are great reminders so it even helps to repeat these from time to time!
Current question – say there’s a log, typically will they sit on the current side butted up against it or on the back side of it out of the current?
Great Video! More like this would be really helpful!!
Thanks Matt. Good Stuff!!
Sounded like I was talking to myself…I've been fishing for a while!!
Bring it on Matt!! Keep it coming
Love the series!!!!👊🏻 Keep them coming!!!👍🏻 Always looking for ways to make myself a better angler and I learned a lot from these types of videos from you. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
This was really helpful and looking forward to more.
Yes pls…some I may already know but GUARANTEE YOU there many tips I need to hear!
YES! Do a bunch of these and then go back when your are done and give us a top 10. Thanks for the great videos.
Fantastic video. I like the fact that you don't over complicate. There is such a thing as information overload. Looking forward to more of these videos.
Keep it coming great stuff thanks
Yep we want more!👍
Another great video. I haven't commented in a while but I watch everything. You're obviously doing something right your subscriber base is growing. I'm going to buy the lake breakdown for candlewood. Have you actually spent time on the lake or did you just break it down?
I definitely like this and all your videos, I also like they aren’t too long between my attention span and the amount of time I have to watch them.
Great vid Matt! Sometime we get so lost in these intricate rules and baits that we sometimes forget about the basics
Hi Matt, could you please discuss tips or rules relating to boat positioning from,
• how far you are from your target zone when you coming of the plane
• points to note while approaching your target zone while on the trolling motor
o like speed of approach
o direction (sun behind you etc)
o wind direction in relation to the target zone (how far do you start fishing before the zone)
o how do you manage your boat in the drift caused by the wing or current
o where do you start fishing (deep to shallow or shallow to deep)
o does the water lapping against the boat compromise your stealth
o noise from the boat, music, sounds caused while moving on the boat etc
o do you switch off your fish finder to not alert your presence
• Boat positioning ledgers
• Boat positioning points
• Boat positioning coves, creeks
• Boat positioning sea walls, rock face cliffs in the water(vertical drop-offs from above the water into the water)
• Whatever more you can think of please
I think I blow my chances before I have wet the line.
Please keep these kinda tips coming thank you sir.
More please. Thanks for sharing.
I truly agree about a particular target when I fish a shoal there is always a particular part of the shoal where fish are stacked up because of a couple of particular boulders just a couple larger sized rocks compared to others that make up the shoals.
Thank you for the video
Thank you Matt, These are Great tips. Please continue with more tips! This information is gold!
Great stuff! I noticed on FTM lake breakdowns you did some northern Lakes! I was excited to see Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake Champlain.
Have you ever fished Lake Winnipesaukee? Which leads to my request for a video on how you breakdown a lake you never fished before. What type of research do you do?
