Try BFS. Oh wait, bait casters haven't had an anti reverse lever since the 70's. Yes I have some. Shimano, Shimano, Shimano.
No thank you!!!!!
Can I have your old ones sir
It’s a matter of life or death
Hey Randy, how about giving us an on-the-water YT tutorial on how to back reel? I'm curious to see how to properly do it. Thanks.
I've been back reeling for over 60 years. On some of the newer high end spinning reels you can't back reel as they aren't designed for it and it takes a little while to get used to.
Randy: you think like a bass, I like it, keep teaching us the correct way 😇🙏
I lost a good fish because i try to back reel like you say, bad advice … maybe it might work for you, but not everyone can do it, sorry i disagree. to me; back reeling is no good to me like how braid to leader to you
Back reeling is probably the most counterproductive method to fighting a fish. I have landed big bass on line as light as 5lbs using a drag. Not to mention catching BIG steelhead with 3lb leader using a spinning reel drag, 30lb+ salmon with 10lb leaders. Get yourself a quality reel with a quality drag and maintain your drag and you won't have to back reel.
This is exactly why I don’t use toasters. I toast my bread over an open fire the way God intended it. I’m not falling for any of this toaster oven crap.
Randy, I have two reels with anti back reel. Is there a away to eliminate this?
I tried it and was having problems with the handle coming backwards and letting out line, making a mess. Am I supposed to be engaging and disengaging the anti reverse? Also do you prefer the levante to the orochi whipsnake?
Backreeling? You youngsters will never learn. Hand lining is the only way to go. A rod and reel are useless tools designed by greedy fishing gear companies to drain your wallet and destroy the enviroment.
Thanks, gonna try this. I always hate playing with the drag while I have a fish on. Takes focus off the fighting the fish!
100% agree! One issue I find with most modern spinning reels is that the anti reverse don’t audibly click like on older reels. You should talk about thumbing a bait casting reel.
No harm in trying, thanks
I think ima start trolling the trolls here
😂
It seems to me, every time I have the back reel engaged, I wind up with the biggest birds- nest of tangled line going…
Old Charlie Brewer used to cut the bail arm off and back reel fishing the 4 in slider worms
I’ll stick with my revos and use the drag the way it’s supposed to used. Also to each their own but this seems like a great way to have a giant mess in your spool.
Can you post some videos up please Randy? Some where you are catching decent sized fish, as you say on light line.
Thanks
Randy’s fired up 😂 good video
I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but I have been using rear drag spinning reels forever. My latest purchase is a Shimano Sahara that not only has a smooth rear drag but also has a "fighting" lever that has like 4 or 5 preset adjustments that can tweak the range of the drag extremely easily and fast on the fly to handle any size fish that you might have on. The concept of back reeling is foreign to me and I believe I would lose more fish trying to use it. And it isn't one of the $250 ones.
With Daiwa (Fuego) and Ryobi it is possible to backreel, with Abu Garcia (Rocket) not – there is even no handle to reverse.
If 500lb pound tuna can be caught using drag on a spinning reel its no problem for bass
Back realing is fine until a big fish runs hard and you accidentally let go of the handle then big ball of a tangle
I have back reeled since I was 12. I would hope with the money spent on reels now the drag would be better. But I totally agree. You put a big smile on my face. Thanks!
I agree 100%! I’ve been back reeling my whole life. I am disappointed in the tackle companies that stopped putting it on there reels. Some folks can’t pay $250+ on their reels. Still agree back reeling is the best way to fight a fish.
Gonna give this a try. Definitely can see issues with drag my self and what you put forward here, even from my short time fishing. Thank you.
