Randy give some general advice on becoming a better bass angler…#bassfishing #bassmaster #fishingdaily #bass #fishing #catchandrelease #angler #fish #fishingtrip #fishinglife
David Dudey has a video about slack line comparing braid on slack lone and then fluorocarbon on slack..about feeling strikes. You might take a look. I'm interested in your opinion
excellent video, Randy. Scott Martin also called Lewisville Lake the "Worst bass lake in Texas:. I agree – but – it teaches me something new every day I am on this lake.
Pure and simple logic, and you hit on my problem. My home water is just 10 min. away but now I struggle to catch a bass while fishing the full water column with lures and colors that has worked in the past. This time of the year the bass should be chasing baitfish yet there is no activity on top after multiple trips I have decided to fish less but drive a longer distance to better fishing.
Good advice! Maybe you could explain how you find fish on a new body of water in a way new anglers can understand where to start, as far as locations and baits. Or maybe you've done that video and I haven't seen it, yet.
Thx, catch a lot of perch on spinners/soft but I suck still after a summer of trying with crank baits this might explain it… Still dreaming of catching them the Bass ”crank bait style” so’ll never give up!
For me it has been learning as much as I can and time on the water. I’m consistently fishing when I can (attempt to fish at least once a week). I’ve pretty much figured out the drop shot and ned are money year round. You might have to adjust bait and leader length but those techniques get it done. As I’ve kept progress I’ve found confidence in other baits. The jig, crank bait and fluke seem pretty solid as well. But mechanics and bait placement are huge. My fishing partner is just deadly with placement. That alone allows him to catch more fish and use different techniques (frogs for example). As I keep fishing I keep getting better. In the end I just want to be able to catch fish and I’m there already. My next progression is to be able to catch “bigger” fish. The dinks are ok but the 4+ pounders are where the real fun begins.
DO THE WORK!!. practice, listen/learn and scout. You won't kill a deer by sitting in a tree or shoot ducks by standing on the shore. Fishing is no different.
Hey Randy question for you. I was fishing your jig out on my bass boat. I got thumped in 15 minutes nice 3 pounder. But not another fish all day. Then realized after thinking about it I was fishing weedy bottom about 1 foot thick. so I think the bass couldnt see it. Do you only fish bottom baits on hard bottom?
The real secret is you will always suck at bass fishing, but it doesn't matter. Its ok to suck as long as you stick it out. I've been tournament fishing since I was 8, I'm almost 40. I've sucked and won tournaments, I've fished great and not cracked the top 10. You can always improve, just have fun.
Hey randy that was a good one randy there all good videos . Randy I definitely have to go out and practice my casting skills. That Guy from fish the moment Johnny did a video where he was teaching a kid how to become a better caster . Randy he showed me what I was doing wrong randy when I was trying to roll cast I was extending my arm all the way out instead of tucking my elbow into my ribs and then trying to cast . And when I was doing it the wrong way I noticed right away that I wasn't in control of the cast and I was also trying to cast to fast. And when you pros cast it's so smooth and fluint. So I have to practice my Mechanic's. And the other thing I noticed is when try to cast to fast your not in control of your cast . I'll have to practice that as soon as I get my Amazon job I'll book a trip with you and you can teach me more about my casting skills. Trying to rush when it comes to casting just seems to keep you out of control of your cast . God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike.
Thats some of the best advice ive heard for people struggling Randy. When I first got back into bass fishing in 2018, I struggled a lot. Until my casting and mechanics got better and I could get the baits into places most others couldn’t…….way up inside bushes, in crazy types of cover, into drain pipes, etc. also if theres thick vegetation on your lake and pond……most rec anglers wont fish it cuz they dont wanna deal with getting hung in the grass and picking moss and grass off their baits…….but thats where the fish are.
As far as baits and lures, I have never seen a body of water with bass in it where they won’t eat either a wacky rig senko or a t-rig worm in green pumpkin or watermelon or black/blue. In summer time, dont be afraid to let the bait sit for a lil bit. You dont always wanna move it, that can turn off the fish.
Not all lakes have a good population of bass. You could try becoming a co-angler in a weekend BFL event. Just tag along, follow all the rules of being a co-angler, don’t mess the boat up and keep your eyes open to what the pro angler is doing. You might not catch much, but you will learn and hopefully make angling friends who you might be able to fish with in the future.
This is a good topic to cover. Ya know just one bite, or one catch is worth a thousand videos. But you got to get to that bite point. Once you catch a fish and a decent one on that lake, confidence takes over and you’ll fish whatever bait you’re using with its highest efficiency. When I first started fishing fresh water lakes I didn’t have any help. Except for magazines and a few fishing shows. I set out to conquer flathead catfish. I spent hundreds or even thousands of $ and hours and hours on end without anything to show for. But all of a sudden I hooked up. From them on I had confidence in my fish finder, my bait, my equipment and I most of the time I could go out and hook up on a couple 40 plus fish. You have to confident and don’t get discouraged and fishing is one of those things you have to accept change and change with the fish.
some people dont suck at fishing. Its the area of the states they are fishing. The lakes are basically just cat fish holes and dead. south east ohio is a good example. what really are my choices? the ohio river? it doesnt matter what my mechanics are or how many graphs or live scope. If there are no fish…
You missed the #1 rule Randy! Seasonal patterns, sure, this can help and casting prowess is important but the single most important rule in ALL fishing is COVER MORE WATER. There's only 2 scenarios in fishing: they're not there or they're there and not interested in biting/eating anything. Fan cast, longer casts, different baits (topwater, various depths, bottom), and move to a new area if you're not getting bit. Occam's razor.
These are good tips to become a better angler but better is not good enough. Can u explain how to become a great angler. There’s a difference between good and great anglers.
I tie on a practice plug and set out various things like old tires and buckets in the backyard and spend hours casting to them. It really makes a difference when I get out on the water and need to make that one perfect cast next to that lay down that has a big ole dumb bass sitting under it.
Thanks Randy. I fish local tournaments but still go to a local pond to work on technique. I see anglers casting where I know bass are not. Anglers need to understand how a bass makes his living. A bass would starve if it ran down a single shad in the middle of a pond everytime it got hungry. That's just bass 101 there is much more why a bass is where he is.
Some other things to try . Go to a local tackle shop and talk to the people there , explain what you do and ask what you may have to try . Try hooking up with someone who fishes , I mean someone that knows somewhat about how to fish properly , some good people out there willing to help , plus maybe make a friendship along the way .
Great vid! I always telling young or struggling anglers to start out with a worm! You can catch bass on any lake in the country Texas rigging a green pumpkin worm!! After they build their confidence with that then start find one new technique and research best practices with it just keep adding techniques as you perfect what your learning. So many people go out and throw the kitchen sink without being good at anything. Jack of all trades master of none mentality will not make you a successful bass fisherman!
Yup, I still remember that moment it clicked for me and I went from thinking of a bass as a unicorn to catching them consistently. YouTube was def a huge help… I don't have any mentors or experienced anglers in my circles
The last few years ive gotten super serious about bass fishing, I can’t believe all the learning phases ive gone through, last year I had 3 kinds of days, big fish days, little fish days, no fish days. This year ive gotten blessedly consistent in catching fish literally almost every time i go out… now i need to learn to combine consistency with bigs bc I feel like I landed more 4+lbers last year… maybe they were just more memorable
Another great video that makes me think. Thanks! Just had my best 2 weeks of bass fishing ever. I finally figured out my approach to fishing a lake needed to be changed and it worked.
The more I learn the worse I get
Fundamentals, don't skip em.

Experimentation is the key.

You are awful
Hey just wanna say thanks for all the videos I always learn something and it’s bin helping so thank you
He needs to get live scope and a drop shot.
Now that’s a topic I can relate to.
Most important thing for a successful fisherman is to trust your instincts.
The person who asks, "which rod is best for me?" Is truly a noob.
The first right move was to ask, "what am I doing wrong?" To ask people who have done it. Not asking people who are pretending to do it.

I can relate to this angler question. One tip that you could have mentioned is to slow down with the finesse presentations.

Super windy where I live up in the North… How does the wind effect the Waters, fish and just fishing in general?
My hands won't allow for my casting mechanics to improve much. I've beat them down but you are def right..

The title got me…I don’t wanna suck!
You gotta find areas where others haven't fished.
