Why Everything You Know About 'Big Bass' is Wrong

Most anglers believe that stocking more bass is the secret to a better lake, and that 100% catch and release is the only way to protect a fishery. However, quantifiable biological data proves that these “common sense” traditions are often the very things preventing your local pond or lake from producing trophy-sized largemouth bass.

I’m breaking down the paradigm shift in bass management by looking at the science of carrying capacity, competition for resources, and why selective harvest is often more beneficial than releasing every fish you catch.

Key Topics Covered in this Video:
* The Stocking Myth: Why adding more fish to a lake doesn’t equal more big bass (and why it often leads to stunted growth).
* The Catch and Release Trap: Why releasing every bass can lead to overpopulation and a lack of forage for trophy fish.
* Fisheries Biology 101: How to understand your water’s biomass and forage-to-predator ratio.
* Trophy Bass Management: The steps required to actually grow double-digit bass through science-based practices.

If you are a serious angler, a pond owner, or someone interested in the biology of bass fishing, this deep dive into fisheries science will change the way you look at bass management forever. Stop relying on myths and start looking at the data.

  1. FYI: if you're interested in culling your water body but don't like to eat bass, contact a local bird or wildlife rescue. They might take the meat for the animals. If they're a non profit, you can even get a tax write-off every time you fish

  2. Stocking can really screw up the natural population of a lake. The “Genius’s” in Connecticut thought it was a good idea to stock walleye in several lakes that had both largemouth and smallmouth bass. The walleye decimated the smallmouth populations in ALL of those lakes. Absolute morons!!!!!!!!🤬

  3. OMG!!! Eating bass?!?! You’re going to make heads explode!! However you’re absolutely right. All my local lakes have gone downhill. You can catch tons of dinks so they’ve implemented slot limits and I’m all for it.
