What Does the Lowrance Deal with MLF Mean for The Future of FFS?

With the new multi-year sponsorship of Lowrance technologies for Major League Fishing, what does this mean for the future of forward facing sonar in one of the biggest professional bass fishing organizations? Can they ban FFS in future bass fishing tournaments? What will the anglers think of this major multi-year deal for the Bass Pro Tour, Heavy Hitters and Team Trail for the upcoming seasons?

  1. As far as the angler talking while fishing, I don’t know of any other sport you expect that to happen. Sometimes these guys are using prototype baits they can’t talk about, e.g. Jacob Wheeler winning with the freeloader the first time. What I find boring is an angler catching a big fish that I would really struggle to bring in and all you see is a hook set, a few turns of the reel and then they run to the middle of the boat and grab the fish. Either their equipment wears out the fish almost immediately or they cut out most of the battle. It’s the battle that makes it exciting to watch. Without that it doesn’t make a difference how they stand or what they say.

  2. The only thing I would say is reasonable and I hope happens is the limitation of the number of units and transducers on the boat. I see it just like the old rule of limiting the size of your outboard engine. Don’t make it a competition of the haves vs the have nots. FFS isn’t going anywhere and as more and more guys go offshore to fish , it means less pressure for the guys that beat the banks with a flipping stick.

Randy is a hypocrite. He condemns the use of current technology that helps you catch more fish. While doing that, he is using current technology to provide his multiple videos per day on the internet. That technology is what puts food on his table because fishing sure isn’t doing that. The guy has made less than minimum wage for the last 15 years.
Randy also talks about cheating by using spotlighting and catching fish they see with their electronics. But truth of the matter, on FFS you see a blip on a video screen that represents a fish of some species in a general area. Randy made a career of true spotlighting by seeing actual bass sitting on beds and ripping them out. ………oh, and be sure to buy his modern electronic maps he sells that shows where the bedding flats are and also buy his sunglasses because they help you see the fish better.

  3. Who gives a damn if the pro fishing circuit goes down the drain? Ninety percent of todays pro are yesterdays anglers that couldn't compete and make a living when you actually had to know how to fish to be successful as a pro.

  4. Spotlighting isn’t going anywhere. Nothing will change until FANS boycott Bassmaster/BPT. It worked with Bud Light, it’ll work with this scenario. Other than that, scopeadoping is here to stay!

  5. Best studio on YouTube! I have been enjoying your content for years. You're absolutely right, money talks. Here's an idea 💡 let keith Poche set the rules for both organizations. I love watching that guy fish

  6. I don't have FFS. It's very expensive, and it doesn't make sense as a weekend warrior. I'll give my thoughts. Randy talks about the fair chase. If that is the argument, you will need to ban bow fishing. Maybe ban scopes on hunting rifles. How about ammo? The shells have large patterns. Shot anywhere within 3 feet, and the duck is dead. See how ridiculous it becomes. If FFS doesn't get cheaper, how many fishermen will buy it? The only way FFS gets banned or limited is if state wildlife commissions ban it. I heard Texas is worried about the crappie population. A study indicated that it is having a negative effect. Oh, by the way, I heard red penetrates the water better ban RED.

  7. Now that 90% of what we have been told for years has been basically proven wrong by FFS they can ban it but someone is going to figure out how to catch those suspended fish consistently then how are the bank beaters going to respond.

  8. 100% agree. The guys on BPT who know how to talk while they are fishing is great entertainment. I enjoy watching people catch fish. Loved guys catching 70+ lbs today on St. Lawrence River. I also enjoy listening to guys explain what they are doing. Cameraman, "Hey, Angler, we're live. Give us and update." And, the guy starts talking. When he gets a penalty, he immediately sits down and starts talking to the camera explaining what he's doing. I think MLF is a far superior format (CWR) and lot more fun to watch.

  9. There is such a simple solution….you dont like it dont watch! Theres not one bit of difference between watching KVD sitting on a ledge throwing a crankbait into open water repeatedly than watching an angler using ffs.

    F Randy!!!

  10. They might as well put all the anglers in room with virtual fishing on computers and have that as the tournament because I liken that to what’s going on now just to painfully boring to watch!

  11. First of all I don't bass fish, crappie only, but I like bass fishing and watch every minute of live coverage that I can , and I had rather see the back of a guys shirt but catching a fish every 7 minutes than a fisherman pound a bank for 3 hours and maybe catch1 , show me the screen and I'm good !

  12. The back of the jersey opinion was spot on. Nothing worse than seeing a loaded rod with a bend I like and the guy is wearing a rain jacket so I have no idea what he is using

  13. I obviously cant give you a number but, i would bet most of us watching Bass Live or MLF aren't watching these guys to kearn how to use FFS. We just love to fish and like watching competitive fishing. Cheer on our favorite "pro's". FF$ takes away instincts and the unknown of getting that big bite, and is why I love fishing and gets me watching. If a person wants to learn how to use FFS there are many YouTube channels to get better knowledge from than Bass Live!
FFS just takes out the true sport of fishing in my opinion. I can tell you it's not good for the crappie population for those that love doing that.

  14. The fish will adapt to FFS. 2 years and FFS will be significantly less effective. The view of a guy casting to the bank is no different than a guy using FFS is the same. Randy needs to learn technology. Someone, a tournament tour, will limit the number of transducers on a boat. The guys getting beat need to put in the work to master it. Just like any other technology.

  15. Its more proof that MLF financially is doing well. All the haters hoping for its demise are gonna shitting themselves when they find out BASS is in financial hardship. Thats why they are desperate for investors. MLF is making the right adjustments to strengthen the league.
