I zeroed 1st tourney of the year this year. First time that has ever happened. Followed that up with a 2nd, 1st, 2nd though….
💯 sometimes it's just the cadence of the Spook wider/slower pauses or sharper/faster or a popper spit vs louder splash or pop pop pause, etc. Great advice tho Randy, don't overthink it.
Good advice
I think the key point here is that you “hear” “everyone” is catching them but don’t actually see them doing it. The 20’ tall marquee on the front of the local Bass Pro Shop here says: “. Welcome hunters, fisherman and other liars”. Bass fisherman lie, period. I am friends with several of the top bass guides here in Florida where I live – i store my boat at one of their home’s and fish with them on a regular basis when they don’t have clients and I can assure you that they along with everyone else exaggerates. The guides kinda have to because who wants to pay $500 to a guy who tells you he’s not catching that many fish. But just the regulars guys? Forget it. I would estimate that with most fishing reports the reality is likely only 50% of the actual reality ….
Randy, thank you for this video. My son and I are learning the north end of our lake here in north ga. Lots to learn and these videos help us. Thanks again
I'm usually embarrassed to admit i spent a whole day trying to catch some monsters, only to realize a day later, they were the wrong kind of monsters. In my case they were giant carp feeding on fry. 😅
It happens to all of us, everyone that always says their having good days on water all the time I'm most likely full of it. & some may be on a good streek too at times. I haven't been catching many fish this summer. But I've been catching big one's. Lost a really really big one this evening. It hurts!
If I get too frustrated I go home, but it's not very often. Last time it was because nothing good was biting then I foul hooked a stingray about 30" across and it drug me all over the grass flat in my kayak. It was a very good test if my rod, line and knots. But once I saw it in the surface I knew what it was and I knew dealing with it next to the kayak would be dumb. So I cupped my spool and broke my 10 lb braid on purpose. 15 or 20 minutes of that was enough to send me paddling towards the ramp. The bad bite was annoying enough, but being towed by a dangerous and worthless stingray and losing a jig was too much. I was especially annoyed because I was trolling the jig while I paddled and at first I thought I had something awesome like a huge redfish/ red drum or a striper or cobia. What a letdown.
I learn so much from your teaching videos. Thanks so much Randy!!
I got skunked twice yesterday…
I feel like the more frustrated you get, the worse you fish.
Can u imagine being a Livescoper, and your battery dies for your computer game? How embarrassing
Randy, this is my first time commenting on one of your videos.. great advice/ topic- Thanks
2018 Skeet Reese zeroed Day 1 at the Classic and got choked up on stage afterwards. A LEGEND in the sport. Still zeroed. Not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN.
Getting skunked happens!
I enjoy fishing spots where it's hard to get a bite. I've got a highly pressured little community lake I go to often. There is literally always at least someone there fishing 15 to 18 hours a day, and it's small. It's fun because it's challenging. Also remember that some fishermen have been known to be a bit less than honest. Guy showed me a picture the other day of a fish he caught that day but he was wearing different clothes. Don't get down down on yourself over what someone says, it may not even be true. You probably know more than you think. Keep at it, you'll get em. I think I heard randy say the other day to fish like you don't care if you even catch anything at all. I think we sometimes miss the forest cause we're focusing on the trees.
Thank you Randy
Always great practical advice!
THOUSANDS
Good one , loved it
And I thought by the title you were going to talk about when the "hershey squirts" hits you out on the water! 🙂
Randy, this is the kind of advice that I am interested in hearing about. I’m just an above average fisherman but I really enjoy getting out there and trying to figure out what the fish are wanting. It’s nice to know that even the pro’s have the same problems. Thanks for your insight.
Tourny fishing definitely has some skill, but most of it is luck!
This Is so true … thanks randy
Really good video Randy.
Love the advice!!!
A few years ago, at a BASS open, I was a co angler. I brought in one skinny 12 inch bass at 14 ounces. The crowd went crazy with laughter.
I have been a serious bass angler my whole life, but only have fished a handful of tournaments and have done really well in all except one. It was a charity outing and I was far and away the most experienced boat in the field of only 7 other boat. I came to the ramp with only one bass at the end of the day and came in dead last. It was embarrassing, but at the end of the day that is fishing and sometimes it happens.
I've been there, but it was in the same boat! We were throwing the same tube on the same jig at the same bank. My line was a couple pounds lighter but he'd catch one every five or ten minutes and I guess I was just practicing. Elsewhere I'd catch fish but not on that bank. Worst is I was the front seater! I still scratch my head how that was the case.
early comments are top tier
I am always seeing you around town man. Lol. Didn't realize you're my neighbor as well. The Skeeter looks great.
… There are soooooooo many decisions being made on the water and even before the boat is launched.
Make a few wrong ones and BOOM, no fish for you.
The questions always in the anglers mind is, is it the wrong lure, presentation or location?
Use the 20 minute rule like he said.
Sometimes it may not take 20 minutes before you want to or know you need to change something.

Not as bad as having to poop in front of your co-angler.
Read the thumbnail and my mind instantly flashed to my experience in 30 degree temps in February with a 4 pound bass a 200 rod/reel combo and one very slippery rail
