trying for a bass on livebait

Autumn brings in the whiting and hopefully the Bass are following too.

In this video I use whiting as live bait for Bass using a treble hook and have success fishing close in to a shingle bank.
Sea fishing on a shingle bank that leads on to sand we catch some whitting and use them to tempt a bass.
I use my favoured live bait rig for bass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf4PXxSVd1o&t=8s.

  1. Hi mate quick question what would be the best way to spin a frozen sandeel? How would you present it and what type of trace? Do you use a small weight? And great video as always I'm slowly working my way through you're video's

  2. Great video – enjoyed watching that and learnt some about live baiting for bass.
I am just back from the beach having just blanked on the bass, but plenty of pouting to go around

  3. I have a question in regards to using whiting as live bait. Is there a size limit on how big it has to be? I know to keep whiting they need to be 11 inches but is it different to using them as live bait?

  4. Nice bit of fishing, good result with the live bait, nice bass, and you weren't holding the rod ?? one day it might be a good double !! and to coin an old c b fraze, Ding Dong I'm Gone , rod n' reel swimming.
What would be good is, you were to divulge your fishing marks every once in a while ๐Ÿ™‚
    Cheers, Les.

  5. Bit of food for thought for live baiting. I fish a normal paternoster style trace, small hook or hooks, with a bead above the swivel. While this is fishing I use a dedicated live bait rod to catch a wriggler. When the bait is caught I hook it onto a relatively short trace with a snap clip at the other end which is clipped onto the main line so it runs freely. The bead above the swivel stops tangles and the live bait trace is too short to tangle with the paternoster. When clipped on the bait can only swim down the line and does not suffer from being cast. Works a treat, just ignore the little fish hooked on the paternoster, they are for attraction, and wait for the rod to double over.

  6. First time I've seen your channel…. Minimum landing size.. Pouting 25cm… Whiting 27cm… in our area..anything smaller must be returned. ..You use 7-8in.. 18-20cm approx., For live bait.. Is it different minimum size were you fish ???…. I know min. Mackerel are different 20cm south… 30cm north.. our Bailiffs are red hot…No disrespect just asking, Enjoyed the film

  7. Daft question but whats the casting weight range on the bass rod? Assumed it would be quite small, ie below 50g like most bass rods but noticed you were using a 3oz weight? Just a gentle underarm cast rather than overarm to compensate for the weight? Thanks

  8. รŒ had two speed masters. Both stolen from my garage. Excellent rugged reels. Fast and powerful. Replaced with two Abu 6500s. Good reels but not Speed masters! ๐Ÿ™
