4100 fishermen have signed up.
This video makes me feel a lot better Randy. I am on the unpopular side of the lure list. I hardly ever get thumbs up from my comments and I thought most of the subscribers were decent tournament fishermen. I'm a very successful bank fisherman. Give a guy a bass boat, put him in 1 rodeo and they think they are a pro. LoL !
Jigs really ? Crank bait and Spinner baits oh my !! Creature baits hmm ? Randy, I love what you do !
My top 5 lure categories:
Jig
Crankbait
Jerkbait
Buzzbait
Worm
I run flukes on my chatterbaits and spinner baits, but I just use them situationally alone.
I do love my hard baits, and enjoy throwing them, even glide baits. I think a lot of it comes down to economics.
A lot of guys can't afford specialized tackle, or having 10+ rod set ups, so plastics are the easiest thing to gear for.
It depends on your fishery. Here in urban NY. Our ponds and lakes are man made. The max depth is 5-10' feet deep. Two lakes have the max depth of 30 feet with one with creek access of 2' feet deep. Hempstead lake is 167 acres, shoreline length of 2.85 miles and 10' deep debatable. The lake is dammed off. There are no major drop offs in the lake and a small section is about 10' deep. The rest of the lake is 2-4' deep then eventually getting to 5-6 feet deep in the middle. During the summer the vegetation is super thick. Making anything not weedless impossible to fish. All the top lures 5 Randy mentioned does not work. Unless its early spring or late fall. If I fished in lakes that have steep drop offs and rocky bottoms. I would be fishing Randy's top 5.
Thats kinda backwards for me!
I think you are correlating popularity of videos to use. For me I find myself watching videos on techniques or lures I’ve never used. I’ve never fished a floating worm so it draws my attention and desire to learn something new
I hated jig fishing until I learned from you how to fish them, still learning. Using some of your teachings and some of Matt Stephens I caught my PB largemouth this summer on spinner bait. Thanks Randy
Interesting video. Agree with Joshua on price per lure. Agree with Randy's picks. That being said there are plenty of lures out there at a lesser price point. I do think novice anglers lack the overall equipment to fish all effectively. Top 5 could all be fished on budget spinning gear and from the bank. Maybe we need to survey on bank bound, boaters and kayak because the vast majority can not afford the boat and 20 rod reel combos.
Maybe it is people are watching the videos more about the lures they dont use. The lures that have limited situations where they work well. Everyone uses a spinnerbait, crankbait, and creaturebait year around here but I never see anyone using a fluke. Just thinking people might have their opinions on the baits they use all the time and want to learn more about the baits that they dont use or that are more situational so they dont know about them or feel they need help to learn them. Thanks
Before you started, I just said Soft Plastics. I didn't know it would be the whole top 5. But there ya go. Best bang for your buck. I don't mind spending $6 on a pack of soft plastics and $6 on hooks. The whole set up is like $12 I can justify if I loose a soft plastics set up that's about $2. I Can justify 1 bait costing $12 and I loose that. Just dollars and cents logic.
You might be looking at this data wrong….For instance, I watched videos on a ned rig or other setups, but I have no intention of fishing them. I just wanted the information about them.
I have the best luck with crankbaits, jerkbaits, and spinners.
Sounds like people are watching videos on the stuff they want to learn and not so much the ones they enjoy and probably feel comfortable with?
I don’t watch many jig crankbait or spinnerbait videos because I have fished them consistently since I was a kid but I rarely fish Ned’s flukes or swim baits so I watch those videos to learn more about techniques I use sparingly
The top 5 are all I fish- except replace Ned with chatterbait 😂
Make some sort of poll; to know your audience. Where do they fish? Lake river or pond? Boat? Electronics? How often do they fish
The top five are all soft plastics. Depending upon the size, they all come with about 6 to 10 per pack and are usually affordable. This tells me it could be peoples financial situation’s (like me) that make these videos so popular. Nobody wants to pay $10-$20 for a single lure and then lose it on a snag or snap it off. Fishin’ ain’t cheap!
News flash. You don’t control your audience. The hot thing rn is down sizing. But haven’t heard you ever mention bfs. Why is that? You mention the silly hover rig cuz your friends made it but never bfs baits…not just the tech passing you by it’s all the new baits while you talk about wiggle warts and ancient baits instead. Just trying to help. You seem to not be caught up to speed on current fishing tbh
Interesting results. Surprising.
Randy its quite possible the majority of anglers are not tournament fishermen or even own a boat. Most if not all of your top five sound like baits that would work in shallow ponds are small lakes year round. Something to think about.
Crank baits are pretty much mindless lures. YouTube viewers will learn nothing from the 500th crankbait retrieve video. Stop and go…wow amazing
Wouldn’t it be better to get real sponsors and make an actual show. Then you wouldn’t need 3 channels and all these side projects. And you wouldn’t have to post 30 random items that you may or may not get a buck out of if someone randomly uses your link. Seems like your dependencies on a forever changing YouTube algorithm isn’t sustainable really. Tactical bassin has embraced the selling lures to the point that’s all they really do is sell you stuff. Which is what you have to do to make money but it gets old. I wish fishing was setup up so as a pro you could make a living just being a pro but all you guys turn into infomercials. How sad is the reality of pro fishing…nobody gives the fisherman credit it’s all about the lures and gear and tech
Maybe the top 5 are lures folks use the least and want more info on them. The bottom 5 are used the most so they are more confident using them.
I disagree on the Ned rig worm. I catch lots of fish and also decent sized keepers. I used them year round, especially in cold water situations. Zman is my favorite.
great video
I don't think your results are indicative of how popular/unpopular those lures are. There are thousands of videos on lures, the only thing your list shows is how many people watch your videos and which ones. Some people may be burned out on jig videos etc.
