I like table rock. I grew up down there.
They always get bigger when you lose them. A 2 pounder becomes a 5 when lost a 5 becomes a 14. I knew bass had scales but apparently yours have different kind of scales when they jump 😂
That was a great story. I live in southern California and the late 70 and 80 was fantastic fishing I miss it but happy that I was part of it.
How much would you attribute the fish population to the natural aging of table rock? Im certain the water quality is increasing from back in the day due to conservation efforts by groups such as Watershed Committee of the Ozarks and James River Basin Partnership
Great story Randy! I love listening to guys telling about great fishing eexperiences like that. Thanks Randy 🙂
There is no way you know that fish was 14lbs. I've heard stories like this hundreds of times. (Always the one that got away).
🤔Great story..II have a great story also but a better ending..Im from Wisconsin was walleye fishing with my dad 1st week in May I was 14years old (1986)..Catching some decent keepers around 17" on medium action Fenwick rod & an old Mitchell real with 8 lb Trilene line..Was reeling up a small 12" walleye in 22' of water it was clear water 10' down or so it was about 6' from the boat when a big swirl came up & took it "Zingging" back down..I set my drag a just a little tighter.About 15 minutes later (felt like an hour) we saw "Her" 😳My dad netted my 1st Musky..The Walleye was "Stuck" in her jaws..She was 48.5" & weighed 33lbs..She was the biggest fish I ever seen in my life at that point considering I was only 18" taller..After a half roll of film we let her back in to live & fight another day for someone else..💯❤🎣
That’s a tough one… but a great memory!! better to have on and lost than not to have on at all
When you weigh them it takes all the quess work out of it otherwise bullshit
A great fishing story 🙂
Our family built a little cabin on Aunts Creek arm when I was a kid in early 70’s. As soon as we would get there I’d run down to neighbor’s boat dock with my spinning rod a catch 3 lb’s. It’s where my passion for bass fishing was born
Tales of Lore.
Great story, though I feel your pain of not just losing the fish of a lifetime but more importantly the quality of that fishery. People, please take care of our water.
I was fishing for Rockfish(Striper),at an area below Center Hill at a place where the Caney Fork river and Smith Fork river meet..I was fishing a Cordell redfin, and had the biggest smallmouth I ever seen come up below it..I panicked and stop reeling..When I did that,it caught a glimpse of me,and took off..It looked every bit of 10 pounds or more!Maybe a new world record? It was with another one about 3 lbs or so..It may have came up from Old Hickory,up through the Caney Fork or stayed in that area feeding on stocked trout.I have never seen one even half as close in size since..I'm thinking the bigger, world class smallmouth may be in the rivers below the dams instead of in the lakes?
Love this story. Just this past May, I got mind-blown by the sheer size of a Largemouth Bass I "caught" but did not land. I had hooked a small bass, maybe 1.5 – 1.75 lbs, and just as I got him almost to me, the biggest Largemouth Bass I've ever seen in a lake inhaled him like he was a minnow. That giant fish swam back and forth for a few seconds and when it got a good look at me, it spit out that small bass and swam away. The largest one I've ever landed was well over 11 lbs and this fish dwarfed it. I'm convinced it would have been a state record, I just know what I seen and still can't hardly believe it.
Why do Makos like jumping on boats
Back in the day you ever have any success with an ole Devils Horse? My first bass was in the early 80's FlatCreek arm of Table Rock. You also think the timeline of the major fish kills late 80's into the 90's was due to development pollution instead of the "Acid Rain" excuse we was given. After loosing all those quality bass, and lots of the big genetics from them I don't think we have ever really recovered. Thoughts?

Really enjoy hearing your stories, lookin forward to hearing some more! 🙂
I have a similar story here in New Jersey lost a 11-13lb bass on a swim jig . I’m still feeling that One ☝️ good story mate
I aint fished it in 15 yrs but TRL was like you say back in 70s 80s. I hear there is more small mouth now than back in those days.
Quit dwelling on the past, everything evolves, I catch bigger fish now then then
Think we’ve all had story like at one time or another I know I have.
Guesstimate is what that is but hey if u think u lost the state record so be it.
Great story!
