Good ole Lunker city baits. I have been using them for many years, 65 years old and still catching fish. Lunker City is right down the road from my house. When I lived in Florida the Sluggo would catch saltwater species fish also.
Yup, 16 years old caught my PB on. Texas rig Sluggo. Still haven't beat it.
I haven’t found it to be so weather dependent—maybe because I fish it no matter what, or maybe because I’m in the northeast. I do dead stick it when fishing is slow, and get some of my biggest fish that way every year. Try a black 3” for streams and 4” for rivers. Killer on smallmouths.
How do you hook it weedless?
Just got back into fishing after 20 years. A white Sluggo was what I caught my top 2 personal best on.
Yup, we hammered bass on them. Still just as good today. .
Yup. That's a good one.
Clear water at night in late spring and summer.
I still fish Black and Black and silver Slugos mostly at night here in hot summer nights in Texas and Oklahoma.
Your story reminded me of one of my worse break offs. The displacement of water looked like i was snagged on tree trunk and was pulling it up. After i broke off i casted at that spot for the next hour. I even tied on a naked power ned hook to pull up the "tree" so i could tell myself it wasnt a fish…. Nothing… It haunts me and makes sick TO THIS DAY!
My dad loved this bait. We caught lots of bass on them.
Doug Hannin God bless him
Absolutely love the sluggo ss 7”. Weightless on a spinning rod.
One of my favorite lures that I've been fishing since they came out… and If you fish ponds this is pure gold.
So glad u posted this… I have so many of 5 differe t colors. I still use them. I remember them being popular and reading about them in bassmaster magazine in the late 90s. My friend and I threw them when we were 13 yrs old
YES!!!!! CT in the house! born and raised, been throwing slug-gos and fin-s since 1991.
Been throwing that since the late 90's ABSOLUTE

In North Carolina when they came out we crushed them everywhere. We even used them on jig heads to catch speckled sea trout and puppy drum. I still use them
Thanks for the lesson, I've got some in the box, never have thrown them.
Nooooo!
I got a bunch of them…Gold-Black flake DEADLY!!
That is crazy you mad that video I just Got some of them yesterday I bought some old Tackle yesterday and came with 94 wood baits and all kinds of old worms
The real pig in jig was first, Slugo was second, spinner bait was 3rd , in a Rattle trap was 4th back in the day.. For March tactics no one threw jerk baits to often . When that slugo came out it was the IT !! Lure .. but I swear u loose a lot of fish on those . Maybe it's because back then we just had worm hooks. But I just remember loosing so many fish on them..
Thanks Randy. I enjoy the Hardcore Hoggin' Tips and stories. I catch them on the smallest sluggo using just a split shot/heavy swivel.
I'm just starting to get into freshwater fishing. Fished saltwater for years now. Met an older gentleman named Lance, his been fishing since a child. Worked in the saltwater fishing industry his whole life too. Pinhead to captain of long range tuna boats. Anyways Lance put me on to slugos after watching him out fish us kids on a few trips. Have caught many saltwater bass on them since. They will catch anything it seems, we rig them on jig heads or weighted ewg hooks.Caught mahi mahi on them last year.
I have a collection of assorted colors and sizes up to 9 inches. Never thought about throwing them for largemouth but I'll try. MC baits also make slugs and they work too.
So killing fish by tongue hooking them is ok now, as long as you're not using Forward Facing to do it?
I love your tips, but some of them just seem irresponsible…
I remember when slogos came out. I was from South Carolina and I drove all the way to North Carolina and bought all they had at the only place I could find that sold them and I had 24 fish in one week over 6 lb on lake wateree South Carolina want a tournament made some money that was my first initiation in the fishing with a slugo. probably lost more fish than I caught just because I didn't know to use a 5/0 hook
How much difference with a sluggo and a fluke?
Maybe I missed it but was size hook was that looked like 1aut
One of my all time fave lures! Responsible for my PB twice. I use the Lunker City texposer hook with the golden shiner and black colors.
Randy, what lures did you turn to in the tournament once the slug-go bite turned off?
Manns here in Alabama used to make them back in the 90's. My friends dad used to work there and he would bring them home to bag up to make extra money. I was just a kid back then but still have a large variety of them, and they are still in good shape. I always thought the rounded side was the top, I'm going to have to try it your way and see how that works. Thanks for the video Randy.
That's funny, i just ordered some Slug-go's couple days ago…i prefer the 7.5" & caught a 7 lb last spring on the 9"…Thats a HUGE soft jerkbait…Big bait=Big fish
Shhhhhhhhhh!
Fishing them on Eagle Lake in Ontario worked great for smallies, but were even better for pike. Unfortunately the pike would tear the shi+ out of them. Glad you mentioned the swivel. Very important!
I bet it would work on that hover rig too , a light one
I have been fishing sluggio's 4:14 since I believe 1990. They still work today and have never stopped. I use them all year long especially when things get tough. I rigid the original way with a weight in it or a weighted hook and fish it from the bottom to top
