  1. hey Tyler, I’ve always heard when the dogwoods blooms here in N GA, crappie are spawning. However i’ve found if they’re blooming, the crappie have already started. 😂 Now we do have bradford pear trees too, so I’m gonna have to watch them this yr to see how it correlates to dogwoods. Good stuff!

  2. In my area Clarks Hill and Murray when the Bradford Pears, Dog Woods, and Azaleas bloom its time to throw a Bubble Gum Trick Worm in the backs of pockets and when the blooms fall off this bite dies off. Ive leaned on this for years and it works every spring catching good bags!

  3. Here in Louisiana you will hear the older fisherman say that when the dogwood trees start blooming, the fish are starting to move in close to the banks. I have a lake close by that has a hot and cold side and every year, you can almost mark it on your calander, when the dew berries next to the boat are turning from red to black they are on leaning trees spawing. It only seems to be that particular lake that I've seen bc the spawn is usually a little later than the majority of the lakes close to it, but when you see those berries the right color you can bet you're gonna catch some big mama's that day

  4. My name is Steve Rohaley live in mentor Ohio..
so in the spring when you see a dandelion the Smallies are on get your but on the lake….. 2 when you see the cottonwood flying…..it the end of the spawn….
I know you know my buddy Richie Glavic….. where do you live?

  5. If the lilacs are in bloom the fish are biting! Pretty simple the warming weather that made the tree bloom also warmed the water out of winter temps activating the fish to eat after they spawned.

  6. So Tyler, you spot on! In the science/agriculture world we call this plant phenology. It’s the use of plants that help indicate a certain number of degree days ( a baseline temperature is set, and use an ave temp for that day. Take the ave temp for many days in a row and add or subtract thenave from the the baseline and help indicate when to plant a certain plant, or when something could bloom, or buds breaking on certain trees, etc. ) Plants and animals don’t care what the clock says or the calendar, they go off degree days or the conditions of that certain season. A perfect example is the forsythia bloom, great plant indicator.
