  1. I have a bluegil honey hole. I sat back & caught 30 yesterday it was fun they fight well, but as I was farther out on the dock, a huge bass snuck up closer to shore & obviously was feeding on the bluegil. Made my heart drop I instantly put a jig on. I even tried using a live bluegil baby. Buz baits, & countless swim baits. No luck.

  2. I mostly fish at night during the Summer so I try to avoid treble (trouble) hooked baits. I have been using the Teckel Sprinker and Honker Frogs over gill beds or dragged off the bank. The MB Vatalion is my fave for covering bluegill water in the daytime…burn…stop…burn…SLAM!!!

  3. Just fished Blue Gill beds in a strip pit last week and today. Couldn't see the beds but the Gills were machine gun pecking on my Shaky Head . Bass were about 3 feet deeper. last week was 8 keepers the heaviest 6 were 16 lbs. Today was only 4 keepers after being stormed of the lake! Different bait same game plan! Thanks, Randy

  4. I imagine that pattern has caused a lot of co anglers to buy their own boat and pay the higher entry fee .Good tip though , I thought you were going to show some type of shallow bream looking crank bait .

  5. The Bluegill and shellcracker beds emit a very distinctive odor. It smells kind of musty sweet. Once you smell it you will never forget it. I discovered this wading shallow water in Florida.

  6. Thanks, Randy. Always great tips and thoughts. Roland Martin also talks about the devil's horse alot. Incidentally, I stopped by the bait shop yesterday, was buying a devil's horse, and who saw me and gave me a couple tips on throwing it? Roland himself, the legend! He was nice enough to take a pic with me as well!

  7. That looks an awful lot like a Brian's Prop Bee. First heard about that bait from Jason Quinn (AKA…Hardware…LOL). If I remember correctly, he work on that bait with Brian to target brim bed fish on Lake Wylie.

  8. I have had great success with a drop shot. The bass tend to cruise around looking to pounce…..so throwing a drop shot near the beds tends to get lots of strikes

  9. I just wanted to say what a fan I am of all your content and I never reply because I learn so much and appreciate your opinions . I’ve been a serious student of bass fishing for 25 years and have very rarely seen the quality information content you guy and Johnny put out. Thanks so much for improving my skills and enjoyment of the sport. I do however strenuously disagree with your top 5 you tube channels. Intuitive Angling with Randy Blaukat is got to be 1 or 2.

  10. Thanks Randy. Definitely give this a try. I used to fish Bagley Balsa baits colored like bluegills and crappie, but never did very good on them. Maybe I wasn't in the right spots . Now that you've provided more information, I'll try the prop bait and I've got 1 Zara Spook left which I've caught, bass, snook, stripers on. I might have to get a few more spooks. Are the Megabass lures worth it??. Consider an on the water comparison to test if the Megabass outperforms the Zara spook.

  11. I love fishing bluegill beds, caught some really nice bass by their beds, but never fished a walking topwater or prop baits by them. Definitely have try that!!! Much Appreciated

  12. Thanks Randy. Good to see you are able to do some daytime spots again. I was feeling bad about you out there in the wee hours to bring us the juice. When you say slow retrieve on the devils horse, do you mean small jerks or slow steady?

  13. Hey Randy thanks I like prop baits thanks for the great information I have a few props but I never knew when is the absolutely best time to us them. Now I do this information is like gold to me . God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike .
