There are a lot of misconceptions about a jerkbait, and there are a lot of things as bass fisherman that we do wrong when it comes to fishing a jerkbait.

One of the biggest things that we do is we always go fish the exact same jerkbait the exact same way. There are a lot of variables that you should change about your jerkbait if you want to start catching more bass on them.

A few things that I always do when jerkbait fishing is switch up the cadence of my bait and I always like to experiment with sound changes.

The fish will typically tell you which jerkbait they like the most by the way they eat it.

Another big thing that we should always do is be willing to change the size of the jerkbait we are fishing. Sometimes we get stuck in fishing the same size all the time, when the bait can be trastically different!

BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

  1. This video Is a bible, in Italy we fish with jerkbait with spinning rods for saltwater species, and there are a lot kind of fish that have the same behavior of the bass in difficult situation, fish like Seabass (dicentrarchus labrax) and mediterranean cuda, or sometimes even predators typically aggressive and less stalking like Bluefish and Leerfish doesn't wante a regular jerk retrive and prefer some jerking or some twich to upward to receive the attack, the surprising thing is also the advice on the colour, even in salt water the white bone on the belly of the jerkbait is a color that makes the difference both in clear and turbid water. I congratulate you because only experienced anglers have this information, greetings from Italy 👋

  2. I had the absolute best smalljaw day of my life last fall with a Lucky Craft NW Amigo 5/16 oz jerkbait. Was fishing a local river bridge at a transition point. Caught three 20"s that morning and 8 total. 7 of them over 18".

  3. good information I've caught bass in having confidence in the bait I used * I had jerk baits for years but never had confidence in them I'm now just starting to use them this fall

  4. Not that you need an at-a-boy or a spot on, but spot on! Everyone forgets about the jerk bait at the spawn and don't pick it back up. Rods and action and line are spot on. Different makers, sizes, colors are the keys to my success! I know it's a little late….but I was surfing.

  5. Anytime I see an osprey fly over I bomb a jerk bait, and from up high. A few small twitches, crank a few Times pop her on back. 1, 1 2, 1 2 3, pause repeat. Bait dish get she'll shock when they hit the water when birds lose em. I've seen bass chase em down from 40yards out. Remember, your imitating an injured or unsuspecting fish

  6. Tyler, great tips indeed, thanks 👍👍👍 I have a cart full of goodies at Sportsman Tackle and I had hoped you had a code to help🤷🏻‍♂️😜 if you do , great, if not, I will survive 😂😂😎 tight lines Bro 😎

  7. Ty, you need to list all your baits, n hooks you use like cushion 19 hooks. Where they the short bend? #6's I think you said . Then you just leave sportsmen link right there, pretty sure you know this. . I love to change hooks to get suspending jerk bait to fall ever so slightly.your leaving money on the table lol.

  8. Tried throwing a jerkbait late fall going into winter this year. I’ve been getting a lot of what feels like the fish are slapping the jerkbait but no hookups. Should I go smaller for the jerkbait or try a silent ?

  9. Dude, expensive jerkbait hooks will hook my shirt even when it doesn’t touch it. Id NEVER change spro jerkbait hooks. Especially not from that fusion. U know that is not a PREMIUM line of hooks.

  10. I caught 4 largemouth and a steelhead this morning (in 45 minutes) on the Smithwicks Rouge of that exact color. But I keep the original color. My best jerkbait. I just do a straight retrieve.

  11. I wonder if smith wick is aware of that hack.. I have a box full and will give it a shot. Thank you for sharing.

Now the negative. I don’t understand why I should have you change the hooks out on a $20 jerk bait. Nothing you did of course.. just venting.

Enjoying the channel! Keep up the great work!

  12. When I fish a jerk, I pause 10-15 seconds, they always bite on that pause and I don't feel it until I jerk again 😂 the way a lot of people use jerks, which is kinda fast, has never landed me a fish.

  13. I'm no tournament chaser just casual/addicted variety fisherman over 40yrs. I find that doing a few slow and then a few fast retrieves (alternating every 3 casts maybe) gets more fish. The last fish I had in 2 weeks were a 3lb pike, 2+ lb rainbow and 2 20lb+ salmon. The changing hooks is great advice as the last salmon destroyed mine. All on jerkbaits and all hit when verying speed from 1 cast to the next or pausing mid retreive. Great video – thanks!

  14. Tyler, I wanted to subscribe but your editing drives me crazy. Listening to you talk is like reading something with no periods or capital letters. Dude, say less and put an extra 1/4 or 1/2 second pause in your cuts. You’re welcome…
