One of the best ways to catch big bass is with a jig. If you increase your Jig bites you will increase the likelihood that you can catch a big bass.

BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

  1. I also don’t limit myself to just a 1/2oz or a 3/8oz like when the water heats up I will go to a 5/8oz just to get that jig to fall past them fast with a Rage Craw or a Krackin Craw for a bunch of action.

  2. I love throwing jigs but have yet to catch one with a jig. Except a football jig. But I’ve thrown a swim jig all day and got nothing so many times. Hopefully this one helps out

  3. My biggest mistake is setting the hook too fast with any lure. I panic and set the hook and rip it right out of their mouth. I always see other people kinda reel down and set the hook which takes a second… but I always use a quick panic hookset 🤦🏻 lol

  4. Living on a lake in northern MN I fish A LOT in the summer. I try about everything out there for both smallies and largies. The classic bass jig is one lure that I have very little confidence in. I've thrown it a lot and really not had any great days using them. I know it is a popular technique and I suspect it is a detail I'm probably not realizing but it is a low performer in my boat.

  5. Tyler and group: do you find that you can flip cover with a swim jig and paddle tail and then go back to fishing it swimming style like normal or is it imperative to have that crawl or creature tail when you flip into cover?

  6. Why haven’t they been putting the weight on them from the beginning? That would definitely help keep the tackle organized. It’s hard to tell the difference between a 5/8 an 1/2 oz. Even a 3/8 to a 1/2 oz can be hard to tell They should mark crank baits depth range. That would be great

  7. I have caught EXACTLY ONE BASS on a jig my while life..something I need to fix..I need to do what some pros suggest..Go out fishing and take one or two lures ONLY… Teach yourself to fish it, and learn it's nuances…I hate doing that because I HATE getting skunked..Maybe I'll go out with just jigs, and try em in all situations and cover types… and using different weight sizes and trailers…

I LOVE the "meat scale" reference…sadly I have actually done that!😊😋

  8. Great stuff. I have a box of jigs all jumbled together and I have no idea what I am throwing most of the time. My next project: building a jig box with labels! Also need to throw them more. Not sure why I’ve gotten away from jigs. My first really big bass was on a bitsy flip jig in a lake I had never caught any biguns before. Jigs catch big bass!!

  9. Man, your videos are great, whether you are just starting or have been fishing for years. Love the education of it. Watched your other video of you just fishing it was great too. Keep them coming!! Great Job

  10. Good video, couldn’t have said it better. A Jig is a nice compact tool everyone should have. So many sizes, shapes of heads, hook gauges, colors to choose from. There’s alot of modifications you can do to the jig itself and trailers that make a big difference as well. Trimming the skirt like mention, trimming weed guard, type of trailer, action of trailer, dying the trailer, etc. Once you get dialed in on all that depending on forage, time of year, water clarity, location, cover/structure etc its lights out.
