Hey, hopefully, it works out. Ive been wondering when they are going to start getting some guys to push these, and I'm glad to see they are picking guys that are going to use them and will let us know the truth about the product. I own both Shimano and Bates but come on let’s be real.. Bates makes good reels but they ain’t no Shimano.. They use some of the cheaper braking systems that lower end diawas use and some of the lower end no name reels that you can find on Ali express use and I know because I’ve seen one on the reel test that had the exact same braking system my hundo does and is the only reason I found out how to set the brake higher on the spool.
Open face reel is for large soft swim baits like the Huddleston

Not hating on bates actually really like there stuff just would like to point out Shimano has many years and have proven there old reals will still hold up today I was currently throwing my 2018 model of my bantam and it fishes great even seen older models still holding up through all the abuse just would like to see 5-10 years down the road how the bates reels hold up

i have the hundo but didnt like the grips so i had a buddy manufacture some "lews style" custom winn grips in blk & gry. cost me $100 for the pair but well worth it !! its a great reel !!

Bates has been on my radar but not a fan of them being Chinese.
They also market heavily on the frames. Are we supposed to pretend that they’re the only company making one piece frames? When has frame strength ever been an issue on any shimano, Daiwa, lews, etc.
What’s more important are the internals. No lunch is free and most of the price tag for those reels is in the machining of those frames. I’m curious to see how they hold up over time.

I bought a goat 150, it was a little funky getting it dialed in, but brother when I did, it cast a mile, smooth as smooth can be. Only thing I can say I don't like it tge weight, they are heavy. I still have Shimano making up the bulk of my reels, I have 15 or so Shimano, 5 or 6 diawa, and a couple Abu
If you are doing a BFS rod with 6th sense we need a model going down to 1/32 and another for 1/16. One for hard baits and another for single hooks. Hard part is getting those rods at a price point to truly get folks buying them. There are a lot of good rods at high price points but if you can get it under 200 or even 150 they will sell like hotcakes.
You need to take that salty hundo down south to those #6thsensesaltwater boys to show you how really well they’re made.🤠Can’t wait for the EDC 😎
Can't wait to see your reviews of the Bates reels. A little pricey for me, but they have caught my eye. I really like that saltwater reel! Im big on Shimano.
