NEVER use Chartreuse for Largemouth (Science)

Raise your hand if you use chartreuse lures for largemouth bass fishing. Alright, if your hand’s not up, you’re lying! But do you know what’s crazy? According to science, largemouth bass can’t even see chartreuse! Crazy, eh?

  1. Biggest bass I've ever caught was on a chartreuse spinnerbait, so I call BS on that theory. Also "according to science" fish cannot feel pain. More college idiot science. Did this moron just say "bass that were trained? Really?

  2. If they confuse a chartreuse with white it's matter of contrast, different white on white that may reflect some type of contrasting of the scaling that fish have the mimics it possibly? I don't know.

  3. The scientists may have overlooked an important point, light intensity. Such as in different shades of gray. Blue may be a lighter shade of black to them, Chartreuse may be a lighter (or darker) shade of white to them.

  4. I catch the crap out of large mouth bass using chartreuse. So I guess I'm going to keep using it. No matter what science say's. What do they know any way. Does anybody remember the Covid – 19 pandemic and the so called science behind that. Today's science is just some college educated idiots opinion anyway.

  5. One detail that gets overlooked is that the water filters out different colours based on distance from viewer, not just depth. The apparent colour of an object will change as the viewer gets closer. For example red is filtered out at distance but becomes apparent when closer. Fish may be able to see red but not at a a distance

  6. It’s said that dogs can’t see color. Only black and white. I don’t believe that. I always took my yellow lab fishing with me. I parked my truck after unloading my boat and she was taking a swim. The boat ramp was packed with trucks. She realized I was gone and while I was still setting in the truck, she ran thru the parking lot and ran up to every red truck looking into the driver window for me. She ignored every other truck and checked all the red trucks only. There was 4 red trucks total. Mine was farthest from the water. I sat and watched until she found me. Maybe it’s the shade but I don’t think so. I can’t tell red from other colors in a black and white movie. I’d like to see a test done with dogs giving treats if they can distinguish a certain color on color cards.

  7. In the 1970's in Fishing Facts Magazine they said Bass and their Bluegill and other sunfish relatives see red and orange best so I always used those colors.

  8. I’ve always just gone for high contrast patterns in dim conditions and churning water, and subtle stuff in clearer water, not just for bass but any species I’m targeting.

  9. i always kinda figured its really the movement and noise the fish are responding too more than sight. when I was a kid, there was a spot I could catch sunfish and bluegill on a hook with no lure or bait.

  10. Bass in test tanks react differently than a fish in its natural habitat , how many times have you see a lure commercial where the fish were in obviously a controlled environment and the fish struck the lure every time , but take that same lure and use it in the wild and see what happens.

  11. Dude I’ve caught LOTS of Bass on Chartreuse- you need to tie one on and do your OWN RESEARCH. Your making a video with incorrect information. Anyone listening to this guy is a moron.

  12. Ok I know I’m a couple years late and a dollar in a half short here. But I think the reason chartreuse works well is because some chartreuse has some green tint. And being they see green really well might cause a strike more often. Idk that much about science in it but that’s what I would think.

  13. Really good idea – chartreuse looks like white in low light conditions when white may not be seen as well, and glows unnaturally when it’s bright outside.

Black and blue looks the same-not necessarily true. Blue shows up as a lighter shade. Think in perspective of shades of grey. Black is black and blue is a lighter shade of black at deeper depths. Blue is actually the last color in the spectrum to disappear in relation to depth

  14. Isn't chartreuse primarily green with yellow? And if Bass can see green very well, then wouldn't they be able to see chartreuse well? Also it might be worth noting that the classic chartreuse color is different than the neon chartreuse they use on lures. I wonder which one they used in the test.

  15. I think is about contrast against the background rather than any particular color. Pink worms catch a lot of bass. That is not a color in nature much like chartreuse.
