Great advice Randy, especially the part about working out and stretching. Even if you do a 15-20 minute light workout routine, its probably more than 75% of the people out there are doing.
9:24 soooo true and important; I'm 55 now and combat sports train and jog weekly and tell myself I cannot stop EVER; after seeing what happens to folks later in life I absolutely know it's because they didn't deposit regularly in their health bank account; no amount of money in the world can buy health, buy time exercising
Everyone gets health Randy especially the young ones today! But please don't press with the health powder ads and everything going like that! Because, do what you want at all means! Who really knows what's in them? Welcome to the new world Randy! Either its green or its not! Yes take care of yourself! USA
Good stuff and so true. 45 here and I slowed a bit in every thing.
I am bumping 63 and still in my stratos 201 with the 200 evenrude and run all day long and the gym I drive past…. frankly if I live till 70 that's fine cause not dieing in a nursing home period
I'm 56 and you are right about everything my friend
Don’t I know it 😂
i think this is your best video posted.
I can remember back when i used to go fishing i would fish from daybreak till Dawn , i could not Leave i was obsessed with it but Now thats gone for me , i miss those feelings , i started Jogging last week and i have to keep doing it , thanks mrRandy
Life Lessons sounds like a new thumbnail suggestion , love hearing em , thanks for sharing em too .
In 2019 Norm Duke won 2 PBA tournaments in a row, including the US Open, at 55yo.
Great video Randy. I’m 57 and I started working out pretty much 5-6 days a week with weights and running and it has helped my fishing greatly! I started my own Your channel over a year ago because I was motivated to share my experiences over the last 30-35 years on the water. Thanks for your insights. Much appreciated. 👊🏼
Humble, honest former pro angler Randy is the best version of Randy. Excellent video, thank you.
I am a fishermen period I enjoy being on the water enjoying the sights and sounds and I fish for all species from Minnesota to Florida and even Lake Michigan . I am 69 and try to enjoy everyday and most of all respect the outdoors and never take it for granted .
I'm 72 and retired and love to pitch a jig so I went out and caught a nice bag of about 14 lbs that could have won a tournament on my lake. Never accept that your best day's are behind you!
This subject raises an interesting question. Randy, do you think you would have embraced forward facing sonar if it had been available in your 20s or 30s? I'm not trying to stir the pot, it's an interesting question.
What a great video. I’m 64 and have been fishing for a few years. Last year, I hit the gym, lost 40 pounds, and purchased an inexpensive kayak. I’ve caught more bass on the kayak without any electronics in the past 5 months than I did in two years on my Jon boat. Getting fit to improve your fishing a life over 50 is the best advice a person could get. It’s a shame more folks aren’t talking about it. Thanks Randy!!
I agree with this video-
however, you are just a kid. I turned 80. Been going to the gym for 45 +years. 6ft 193lb-same as I was in 1962 as a defensive end. Shoulder bothered me last year so I quit benching. I started back slowly and have eased up to 165×8-I was working out about a month ago and saw someone who looked older than me–he did 3 set of 20 sit ups on and incline board. I got to talking to him and he is 92.
I am a retired fisheries biologist/scientist and cofounded American Sport Fish in 1985. Just a point of interest, we raised and shipped Florida bass to Japan in the 1980's.. It appears that the world record was the result of one of our shipments. No one else was shipping to Japan

GREAT WISDOM RB, thank you so, I needed to hear this!
Thanks Randy
At 68 I can agree with you 100%. I enjoy bass fishing my style and also enjoy just being outside in nature.
Brother, you are spot on with this video. I suffered two strokes at the age of 47, figured life was over for me. I let myself get up to 315 lbs, and I pretty much couldn't do anything but sit on the couch without being out of breath. I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic a year ago in June and decided to make some changes. I changed my eating habits, and as of last Monday, I'm down to 239 lbs. I have more energy,I'm gardening now, and most of all, I'm back fishing again. You're so correct about your health. Without it, you've got nothing.
Sir Randall where right in the same boat with you always wishing you success in all you do
Thanks Randy, I will be 62 next month and have been known to throw crankbaits for 10 hours straight but I definitely feel it. I stretch and do pushups daily but joining a Gym and gaining muscle is great advice!
I'm 71 and could not agree more my friend. Thanks for your videos – I enjoy them a great deal.
67 and sold my boat. Now a kayaker. Love it. Catch more fish now than I did when younger.
Father Time – Undefeated
You pitched that better than a jig, danke Randy.
I'm 49. Sure appreciate you Randy. You're the big brother I never had.
Good evening my Fellow Fisherman Randy B. Thank you once again for All of Your Wonderful and Informative Tutorial's! You truly are a God Send! Keep up the Amazing Content and keep tight a line my Fellow Fisherman 😊. "God Bless You 😇🙏 and your family." Sincerely CJG Sr.😊❤
True facts buddy 👍🏻👍🏻🙏
Randy you went down the wrong path… How about join a over 50 club / tournaments ..level playing field ! We got the money and time our club was damaged be young financial strapped with all kind of family commitments and not committed to the club didn't want to travel , fish close to home !! do you have any idea how bad the fishing is around home ( Chicago ?? ) New clubs / tournaments are needed !!
Wise Words. Keep in mind what activities you can continue to do as time goes on. You can use a small canoe or john boat on farm ponds or other small lakes with owner's permission and often catch more and more often than the big rigs. A 1/16 oz. Ned Rig in black, green pumpkin or watermelon will usually catch you fish anywhere you might go. Take your time, enjoy your day and be thankful you're still able to keep going.
This is the second video where you've struggled to find the right 'o' word to stress your point: you're using 'overestimate.' I believe you're trying to say 'overemphasize.' You cannot "overemphasize the importance of getting our 50-year-plus butts in the gym." Amen to that.
I don’t fish derby’s but I can say my game has only improved year after year. This passed week like Randy says. It’s August and fishing gets tuff. I throw a lipless crank bait and just count it down. Once you find that zone look out. Two nights ago first 3 casts caught a 6+ and two close to 5. This comes with learning and experience. I keep catching my PB each year the past 10. I don’t feel I’m missing a cylinder and I do have a Hemi but Randy nailed it. It’s your health. When I go cast over 100 times a night pitchers don’t even do that any longer plus they get 5 days off between starts. My shoulder is burning and always ice it down. But when you land that 8 pounder all that pain goes away in that moment. When she tail walks it’s a sight you’ll never forget. Take the pic and set her free.
You know this is one of my favorite subjects. Thanks man.
I'm 70, and my greatest joy is teaching young people to fish and putting them on fish. Nothing better now, But I still like to get my line stretched.
Over 60 and over 70 fitness gets more important. In a retirement community, one sees all levels of fitness. WAY better to hit the gym and put in time than drink beer and sit on your (fat) ass. Falling becomes a huge fear over 75. Don't be that person.
Don’t you just love FFS
Timely, correct, and now that I’m late 60s, consolidation and downsizing of fishing options is the key
At 66, I pretty much stick to bank fishing these days. I still catch a lot of bass, I just let the shad bring them to me. My only aggravation are the FEW young bucks who bring their boats where I've been casting for an hour. One such dumb aXX told me to keep casting because there were 100 bass in front of me. To which I responded, "Yeah, and your boat is parked right where they do most of their busting!"
