I spent a cold mid-January day on the private side of Lake Anna chasing winter bass with a jerkbait. The fish were absolutely stacked on points and rock, and bites came fast — but most of them were small.
Instead of just running spots, I slowed down and started experimenting with jerkbait size, color, and speed to see what actually changed how the fish reacted. One adjustment finally produced the only big bite of the day and made everything else make sense.
This video isn’t about a magic lure or a guaranteed pattern — it’s about reading what the fish are telling you and making decisions when things don’t quite add up.
If you fish winter water with jerkbaits, hopefully this helps you think through those moments when you’re getting bites… but not the right ones.
Thanks for watching — let me know in the comments what you would’ve changed.

Great video–like the way you show the color of the bait you are using. Talking through the depth of water is assume. Glad you got out before the ice storm. Careful with frozen ramps.
When is the next tournament?
