Giant Texas Bass! Fishing Lake Alan Henry

Our first day in TEXAS and the GIANT Largemouth have already come out of the wood work! The day started like any other as we searched for fish on a brand new fishery. We knew we only had a few hours so we went from broke with swimbaits and topwater. After making some quick adaptions we found a point that was loaded with monster bass. Come along to see how it played out!

When we approach a new fishery the first step is to set goals. Are you looking to catch as many fish as possible? Do you want to catch a big fish? Are you looking for more than one species? Once you’ve set goals the day will define itself. In this case we only had a few hours so we knew we were looking for a big bite to kick off our Texas road trip. CC started with a glide bait hoping to call a big fish up out of deep water and Matt began probing the shallows with a topwater. When the bass proved to be small they started making quick moves to other parts of the lake but continued probing outside structures hoping the big, post spawn females would be stacking up, and that’s exactly what they found.

The baits and tackle used in the video are broken down below.

  1. Could those be guadalupes instead of true spots? Don’t know just asking I’ve never been to Texas I’m from Tennessee we have a lot of spot variants like cosa bass and shoal bass in Alabama plus a plethora of other similar style bass

  2. Great video! I just moved to this area, and started fishing again after 25 or more years. I"ve caught the spots, but only a few small largemouth. I leared more in 20 minutes than i have in 3 months about my home lake! Thanks & God Bless you & your family!!

  3. Yeah, this is good. I really like you guys for the technical discussions. Me and my dad are old school Alabama fisherman that are in the market for new electronics and we enjoy the videos with the Humminbird instruments. It is really interesting how you guys can find fish with these instruments, and it totally changes the way you fish. We always fancied ourselves as bass fisherman but I think we were really bad at it. Ha ha I am continuing to watch this electronica series, and thanks for posting this.

  6. Spotted Bass are beautiful , I have them in the lakes where I live . Great video your daughter is really cute when you catch a fish her reaction is priceless ! Just like my son when he was that little !

  7. I have a quick question…I’m new to swimbaits and I bought a S-Waiver 120. It seems like it falls extremely fast and I heard the 168 is more buoyant. I was wondering about color? I live in Florida and fish ponds that don’t have any shad or trout of course. What you think best overall color you like?

  8. Ok first thing, it's SO AWESOME that you brought your family with you on the trip. That's always a special thing. Second, your wife was a trooper after losing that fish. I've lost a couple giant fish before and it feels like a small piece of your soul dies. You know that feeling too I'm sure. Third, your daughter is TOO FREAKING ADORABLE. Everytime you or your wife caught a fish, she got SO EXCITED. It was so cute to see. You have an awesome family man. 😁
