  1. Need to see more fly fishing from you Jon.

I've got to add a couple of things though?

1- You've GOT to get your casting and playing mindset out of the Bass bracket. You're casting sideways like you'd throw a lure for Bass. Get your rod up vertical when casting, especially if you have the backdrop for it like out on the water or wide open banks behind you? You'll feel exactly when you need to start your forward cast as the fly and line tension better through the vertical? When you're playing the fish, getting your rod vertical will result in you losing less fish, if you play trout sideways and they're acrobatic, they've got more chance of head shaking and spitting your fly. Also, when they get vertical out of the water like a Saturn 5 rocket, drop your rod tip slightly, this will relieve the over-tension and they'll stay on the hook.

2 – Learn to retrieve figure 8 style instead of a straight strip. This will allow you to retrieve slow and steady (useful if you're using a small bait fish fly presentation) or really quickly. You can add a couple of twitches on the line better if you've got it figure 8 bunched in your hand. It'll also help when playing your trout as it gives you something more substantial to hold? Believe me, you'll need it when you hook into a biggun and it decides to take off down the lake. Fly line burn is both painful AND a bitch!

    Hope this helps? Tight lines!

  2. Lovely video, lovely fish.

A few critiques to provoke thought, not controversy.

"Middle of no where" to me does not mean there is an unmarked trail. I've scouted and bushwhacked hours to find stream pools or ponds to cast rarely touched waters.

What's everyone's definition of "Middle of nowhere?" I think geography is important context, please include state in response. I expect some more densly populated areas to have different yet agreeable definitions.

Also, why are you dragging your canoe instead of portaging it on your shoulders? I'm no purist, but this is odd to my Minnesotan BWCA perspective.

  3. Yes, Jon I will agree that was a true googan move forgetting the rods. That aside this was an excellent trip and a sweet day of catching some beautiful trout. Keep on exploring the backwoods there is plenty in Maine.
