3 Easy Bass Fishing Knots That Never Fail

You’re tired of chasing endless knot tutorials. I get it. That’s why in this video, I cut through the clutter and share the only three knots you need to tie for bass fishing—whether you’re using fluorocarbon, mono, braid, or leaders. These knots are fast, they hold, and they work when the fish are big and the pressure is on.

I’ve been fishing Lake Fork, Texas for over two decades, and I’ve tested them all in real-world conditions. No complex knots. No frayed leader disasters. Just three simple, proven knots that keep your rig streamlined and your hooksets strong. Stick around and I’ll not only show you what they are—but how to tie them under any tough on-the-water conditions.

  1. I tie the FG knot. Honestly, i can tie it very fast because i have done it so much. I tie it on the boat all the time. Have even tied them on in the dark with a headlamp, and I wear bi focals. Believe it or not, there is a lot of feel when tying the fg knot. I think no matter what knot you tie if you tie it a lot, you will be fast at it. The fg knot is the strongest leader knot i have personally ever used. I need all the help i can get. Great videos. Keep them coming.

  2. When I was a kid in the 70's I had no idea how to tie a lure on. 6-7 granny knots all in a row usually held pretty well. Then I saved up enough money to buy a lure. On the sheet inside it had a picture and instructions on tying the Trilene knot. I learned it and I learned it well. I am still using it today. If the lure doesn't run right with it I'll add a snap ring or a swivel, but I'm not switching knots.

  3. Here's a tip:
When you finish tying a San Diego jam or a Palomar knot. Tie a single overhead knot on top of it and pull the tag end down while pulling up on the main line. Super strong and it positions the tag end down with these knots.

Also when fishing brush piles with a jig the smaller Palomar knot comes through cover 10x better than the bulky double San Diego jam, double pitzen, double improved clinch or the double uni knot. Those knots are bulky on the hook eye and causes it to hang up more / resist coming through limbs as effectively.

  4. I use 1. The improved clinch knot. I've never had it fail me and Ive fished since I was 5 years old and Im 43. 😂 When I fly fished I would use 3. The nail knot the Albright knot and the improved clinch.

  5. I use the improved clinch knot 90% of the time even for making a blood knot for the leader to the main line connection. I use a uni knot version of a loop knot most of the time but a clinch knot version of the loop knot sometimes.

  6. Tom, I tied the Trilene knot for years. Matt Stefan recommended the Miller knot. It is a trilene knot with a twist. I get less line burn and is easy to tie. I think you should try it. Watch the Joe Miller video for this knot.

  7. Mine are…1.Braid -Fishin Fool 5 turn. 2.Fluoro – MILLER KNOT -2 Turn 12lb an under 4 turn over. 3.BIG BAITS – Double Pitzen.4.PUNCHING-SNELL KNOT 5.LEADER -CRAZY ALBERTO 6. LOOP KNOT -TIGHTLINE KNOT! GO TR FISHIN" THANX 4 POSTING FROM IDAHO!

  8. I learned a trick with the surgeon knot from trout fishermen, which I believe they also call a Dropper knot. If you leave a tag line long enough you can tie a hook on it for a free floating drop shot setup.
